Allergens & Intolerance

 Under UK law, food business’ must inform you if any of the following allergens are included in their ingredients:

  • Celery
  • Gluten
  • Crustaceans
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Lupin
  • Milk
  • Molluscs
  • Mustard
  • Peanuts
  • Sesame
  • Soybeans
  • Sulphur Dioxide & Sulphites
  • Tree nuts
  • Allergen information and labelling

Pre-packaged Food

Any of the 14 allergens must be emphasized on the packaging. This can be done by displaying them in bolditalic or colored text, anything that will make them stand out.

Non Pre-packaged Food

Food businesses that sell non prepackaged food such as bakeries and butchers must provide you with allergen information on any of the 14 allergens.

Prepacked for Direct Sale (PPDS) 

There is no current laws regarding PPDS, however from October 2021 it will be law that they display a full ingredient list emphasizing any of the 14 allergens.
