API Connectivity matters because supplier and product data rarely lives in just one system. It sits in an ERP, a warehouse management platform, a retailer’s own portal, and often a supplier management tool as well, and every gap between those systems is a place where version control quietly drifts. Food Trace’s API Connectivity is built to close those gaps, connecting the platform directly to the other systems a food business already runs on, using the same GS1 UK product data standards retailers expect.
The API is a straightforward REST API returning JSON, authenticated with API keys and automatic JWT token management, no complex OAuth setup required, and only basic technical knowledge needed to implement it.
User accounts can be created, updated and deactivated with team directories kept in sync via role-based permissions. Product data, descriptions, weights, categories, supplier declarations, can be retrieved and updated directly, with new product line records handled including category flags and buyer assignments. Pre-built support exists for major retailers including Selfridges and Itsu, and it pairs naturally with Bulk Supplier Upload for the initial migration.
Manual re-entry between systems is one of the most common sources of version drift in supplier and product data. Keeping everything synchronised through a single API removes that risk and lets compliance and allergen management workflows stay accurate automatically, at scale, rather than depending on someone remembering to update every system by hand.
